Are you ready for back-to-school? Check off these items on your to-do list to make the upcoming school year the best – and most productive – one yet!

1. Clothes (and bathing suit) shopping

New sneakers, shirts, jeans, sweatshirts and sweaters bought now help you get the clothes shopping crossed off the list for the school year. And, end-of-summer is the perfect time to load up on sale seasonal clothes and swimwear and gear for next summer – but don’t forget to buy a bathing suit to get your little swimmer through their winter swim lessons. Being prepared is something we love to celebrate!

2. Sign up for swim lessons

Extracurricular activities help kids have fun after school and become well-rounded individuals – but swimming is a necessary, lifelong skill that provides even more benefits. We know, you’ve got a lot on your plate with getting the kids ready to head back to school…but it’s easy (and well worth it) to take a few minutes to sign them up for swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School.

And you can even sign up the little ones who aren’t in school yet for swim lessons, since we teach babies ages 4 months and older how to swim – with extraordinary results.

3. Create a bedtime routine

During summer, it’s easy to throw that early bedtime out the window in favor of soaking up every last second of the golden sun – but that may not work for back-to-school. In order to get the kids ready to have a full night of sleep and wake up easily in the morning, start by pushing bedtime up earlier by 15 minutes each night until you’re at the desired bedtime.

Help your kids to be ready for bedtime by establishing a routine a half hour or so before it’s time for lights out: Allow 10 minutes for brushing teeth, using the bathroom and putting pajamas on; 10 minutes for story time together; and 10 minutes for quiet/unwinding time – and feel free to adjust to what suits your family. (Tip: Make sure your kids have used up all their energy during the day – perhaps by swimming – to make bedtime go more smoothly.)

4. Polish up that healthy eating routine

It can be a bit intimidating to go from the barbecues and random mealtimes during summer to the planning of school lunches and family dinners. Grab smaller containers to help make it easier when prepping lunch each day – and be sure to toss in fruits and vegetables. Get back into meal planning for dinners each week to help streamline grocery shopping and time for cooking for a GOLDEN experience this school year.
